My name is Nish, and I’m The Outdoor Wife and founder of A Deeper Story. I’m a wifey, mommy, adventurer, writer, daydreamer, thinker, connector, and believer. I’m a downtown Salt Lake City-dweller and a music snob. Most of my time is filled with diapers, laundry, small handprints and chasing my tiny boy, but somehow, by God’s grace, I’m able to find ways to steal moments, capturing life in word and film.
The Outdoor Wife is a lifestyle & life blog, written by me, the wife of an adrenaline junkie, a mother to a rambunctious boy, and a woman stumbling her way through life, parenthood and faith. It’s a place for encouragement, self-reflection, photography and creativity. The writing here is varied. Everything from memoir prose and poetry to random musings can be found here. It’s a place where art and pushing boundaries are valued. It’s a place where real life is written out.
I am a World Vision Blogger & advocate, fighting for children who live in extreme poverty around the world. In August of 2011, I traveled to Bolivia with World Vision to learn more about their community development model and Area Development Programs. What I experienced in Bolivia changed my life in every way possible. I’ll never be the same.
Along with advocacy, I love showcasing interesting things that I find. From handmade items, to new music to blog posts to new books I’m reading, I’m always anxious to share the good stuff in life.
Our family is outdoorsy – largely due to my husband’s upbringing and his current employment, but also because of our location. We moved from Oregon to Utah at the end of 2011. We’d rather be swinging from trees than pounding pavement. Watching our son gnaw on sticks in the forest is of no bother to us. But, we contrast our love of the woods with a love for people and urban life. We live in the heart of historic downtown Salt Lake City & we wouldn’t have it any other way.
To get a good idea of me & my writing, here are some posts to get you started:
I am a fearsome thing to behold.
I’m a Postpartum Depression Survivor.
I’m learning to be a gentle mother.
The Outdoor Wife was started to be a welcoming place for all of those who strive and struggle, inspire and create, love and live fully. May it bring you even just a small glimmer of community and inspiration during your visit.
